Mini-Review: The movie every twenty something needs to see. HA!

This month the Brothers Warner are releasing a trifecta of Blu-Ray action flicks and first up is Logans Run the tripped out sci-fi auctioneer that serves are a warning label for anyone approaching the big 30. The movie is still as wacked out today as it was then and looks mighty fine in high def. Have to admit living in the world of 2274 sounds kick ass on the surface but a dreadful fate awaits you; in a nut shell you can live it up and party like a rockstar and get killed at 30 or party hard and just bail for cougar town when the time comes...wait! It's not just on the surface this place would totally rock for me! Ok personal notes aside this is a classic film that still holds up quite well and high def lets you relive all the magic of Farrah in her golden age. It's time to renew and grab this on Blu-Ray.

Written and directed by Michael Mann, Heat includes dazzling set pieces and a bank heist that USA Today's Mike Clark calls "the greatest action scene of recent times." It also offers "the most impressive collection of actors in one movie this year" (Newsweek). Val Kilmer, Jon Voight, Tom Sizemore and Ashley Judd are among the memorable supporting players in this tale of a brilliant L.A. cop (Pacino) following the trail from a deadly armed robbery to a crew headed by an equally brilliant master thief (De Niro).

Mini-Review: Next up from the WB slate of high def action: HEAT!

Heat is one of those slow burn types of action/heist flicks that despite being all over the place at times just always sucks me in for the ride. Oh sure Pacino is 15 levels of over the top silly in parts of this movie but it's needed to jolt you into laughing as you watch the grimm adventures of this cop VS crook tale. On the plus side the action (when it happens) is off the chain crazy that yet somehow could actually happen (see North Hollywood Bank Shootout if you need proof). If for nothing else pick this up for the chance to hear Al scream "Cause She's Got A Great ASS!!" in trueHD 5.1.

Mini-Review: The third film in this weeks WB action Blu-Ray slate and a damn good one too.

This is movie I think too many people dismiss, and I can certainly understand that because it more drama than action. However there is plenty of action to be had and the cast is one of the finer collections of cast members you'll likely find in this type of film. Filled with some pretty tense moments and mind screwing plot twists it's a good choice for casual viewing. See Samuel L Jackson at his screaming best.

Mini-Review: Packed in with a new bonus disc (like what was done with the Batman Animated Complete Set) and packaged up in a nice nifty little metal outer case this is a nugget of golden fun for people like me. Oh sure I already own the full seasons but over time they have taken a beating and having them all here in one set makes for easier viewing and looks darn good on the DVD shelf. The set does in fact include both The Justice League and Justice League Unlimited (there has been debate over this but now you know). Mind you I'd love this one Blu-Ray but I'm a patient guy so this works well until that day arrives. Grab your cape and get ready for fun.

Title - The Untouchables: Season Three Volume Two

Chronicling the cases of Chicago-based federal agent Eliot Ness (Robert Stack) and his team of agents - Lee Hobson (Paul Picerni), Enrico Rossi (Nicholas Georgiade), William Youngfellow (Abel Fernandez), and Jack Rossman (Steve London) - the tough drama that defined an era impressed critic with its gritty storylines, and thrilled audiences with its spectacular shoot-outs!

Mini-Review: For some odd reason as a kid I had this obsession with Eliot Ness, the story of how he took on Al Capone just got stuck in my head. Kind of odd really but in following this obsession I watch a ton of this show on re-runs and it's cool checking this out again. The only down side is the lack of features, but old TV rarely gets them so it's to be expected and it's a treat just to have them available. Also Robert Stack freakin RULEZ!!

Oddly I'm going to cut this weeks DVD report short, plenty of other releases to cover in here however those titles have some coverage in other parts of the site.

See ya next week
