Speaking of fun, Fantastic Four has tons of it. The film is simplistic but quite entertaining. Kids are going to love this film. Between merchandising, box office receipts and finally DVD sales a sequel is guaranteed. How soon before Fox announces a FF2? We spoke with Fox Co-Chairman Tom Rothman at the premiere and asked him exactly that, when will Fox start looking at a sequel?
Rothman says that it's a numbers game and that if it is able to come out on top this opening weekend and beat War of the Worlds then FF2 is a sure thing.
I saw the film earlier this week and had a good time. It cannot be compared to Batman or War of the Worlds. Both are very dark and not really kid friendly. Fantastic Four is a film that you can take the entire family to enjoy. Johnny Storm (AKA The Human Torch) alone is worth the price of admission.
So what else is Fox working on? Rothman was able to give us a few quick updates.
Casting for Angel and Kitty Pryde will be announced within one week.
AVP 2 should be ready for 2007.
A stand alone Alien film directed by Ridley Scott is a definite possibility.
David O. Russell's rumored (first mentioned on the IESB) involvement on the Silver Surfer as the director is premature. He does admit that Russell is a fan of the Surfer.
