| Exclusive: Dark Horse to Reboot Timecop! | ||||

One of the coolest films of the 90s and easily one of the best time travel films ever, Timecop is being rebooted by Dark Horse Entertainment. {sidebar id=1}Last night at the premiere of 30Days of Night, the IESB was able to catch up with a long time friend of the site, producer/publisher Mike Richardson, owner of Dark Horse Entertainment. A few months ago while visiting the offices of Dark Horse over on the Sunset/Gower lot, we heard rumblings there was some talk about Universal and Dark Horse planning to reboot Timecop but we were asked not report on it. I was a bit excited since Timecop, even with all of its 90s cheese factor, its easily Jean Claude Van Dammes best film with Bloodsport coming in at a close second, dont pretend, we all liked Bloodsport and Timecop. Unfortunately, as is the case in Hollywood, after the first film became a box office sensation with $100 million in worldwide receipts and Van Dammes best reviewed film ever, the studio allowed for a cheap TV series to be made only lasting nine episodes on ABC. Then in 2003, a direct-to-DVD sequel was made by the folks over at Universal without much input from the creators of the property. The concept of Timecop was never truly explored in the short lived TV series or in the sequel and the franchise became dormantbut it wont be that way for long! So while talking on the red carpet with the creator of the Timecop franchise, Mike Richardson, he was surprisingly open about talking about his future plans. He said he is talking to Universal about bringing the property back to the big screen even admitting that there has been some talk about bringing certain talent to become the next Time Enforcement Agent. While I am not a liberty to say which actor is circling the role, I can tell you that he is 100% bad ass and one of the coolest action stars of today, sorry guys Van Damme is not coming back. Sound off on the IESB boards. {zoomcat catid=543}
