Its been years since Joss Whedon, writer, director and producer, has done cult television shows like Buffy, Alias, Angel and Firefly. And, now he hopes his new show Dollhouse will have the same or better success than these shows.

{sidebar id=1}On Saturday of San Diego Comic-Con International 2008, Whedon with Dollhouse actors Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett introduced the show to thousands of audience members.

Theres a fantastical premise (for this show). Its very much a modern day human storyno vampires, no spaceships, no superheroesjust people, explained Whedon. Most people (should) know that everything I do is about people. Those are the only things I want to tell stories about.

The television show focuses on Echo (played by Dushku), an Active, agent who serves on various mission assignments depending on what she is hired to perform. However, as an Active, the agency can erase her memories and insert a new personality so she could perform her next mission. Some of her memories were not completely erased=2 0and she struggles to find her true self. And, an FBI agent Paul Smith (played by Penikett), is on the hot pursuit to discover the secrets of these Active agents of the Dollhouse.

Echo has a removable personality. Shes different people all the time and trying to figure herself in between times, he said.  Every time she runs into Paul, shes a different character. Their relationship will be absurdly twisted.
I will twist in ways I have never before, he continued. And believe me; its going to be very exciting.
Whedon indicated that this show will not have its own comic books in the same fashion with his other television shows.

In addition, Dollhouse will have webepisodes, to explain plotlines in between some television episodes.
We definitely want to feed the beast, he joked in referring to the insatiable thirst of his fans wanting more information on the show and characters.

Besides Dushku, Amy Acker from Alias fame, will also have a starring role in this new series.

The show is contracted for 13 episodes for the first season. Filming has already begun and will air on Fox television in January 2009.

Other notes: Penikett retold a story on how he was nervous to be acting with Dushku and he forgot his lines. His original line was How did you hear about the Dollhouse? Instead, he said, How did you hear about the wallhouse? He messed up the title of the show immediately..Dushku made numerous contacts with Whedon constantly, because she is also a producer for the show. She told her stories on how she was usually traveling around the world, including Iran, Peru and even elk hunting in Colorado, while communicating with Whedon..In reference to musicals, Whedon hints theres a possibility that a singing musical episode in the future, but we should ease into that. He said, Shes everybodys fantasy and some geeks like me want to hear her sing...On reshooting the pilot episode, Whedon claimed that he is in full control of the production and it was his choice to present the pilot episode in his vision..Penikett made a surprise visit in the Battlestar Gallactica panel following the Dollhouse panel, in which he was not sche duled to appear..A short commercial clip of the Dollhouse was shown to the audience attending the panel.
