IESB Exclusive: Producer Chuck Roven Off Robotech

Chuck Roven is no longer working on the feature film adaptation of Robotech although he wishes the remaining producers well.

{sidebar id=1}Jeff Otto represented IESB and talked to Roven exclusively in Beverly Hills today and asked about the status of the project.

His comments are below:

IESB: Whats the current progress on the Robotech script and where is that project at right now?

Chuck Roven: You know, thats not really a project that Im involved with any more, so you need to talk to Akiva Goldsmith or Tobey Maguire about that project.

IESB: Is it possible you will get involved with that project again?

CR: You know, I just really couldnt tell you. Those are great guys and I wish them fantastic luck with it and its really a great project.

Robotech is currently set up of over at Warner Bros. with Alfred Gough, Miles Millar and Lawrence Kasdan attached to write.

Based on the sprawling sci-fi epic, "Robotech" takes place at a time when Earth has developed giant robots from the technology on an alien spacecraft that crashed on a South Pacific isle. Mankind is forced to use the technology to fend off three successive waves of alien invasions. The first invasion concerns a battle with a race of giant warriors who seek to retrieve their flagship's energy source known as "protoculture," and the planet's survival ends up in the hands of two young pilots.

"Robotech" was an anaimated series during the 1980s from Harmony Gold USA and Tatsunoko Productions.

Tobey Maguire is producing through his Maguire Entertainment and is eyeing the lead role in what the studio plans on being a tentpole sci-fi franchise.
