IESB Exclusive: Zack Snyder's SUCKER PUNCH Casting News!

Zack Snyder has proven himself to be one of the top filmmakers of his generation. With 300 under his belt and WATCHMEN making its way to the big screen March 6, Snyder has definitely left his mark on Hollywood already.

{sidebar id=1}Snyder's next project is SUCKER PUNCH. This time instead of an all male cast a la 300, he's going with an all female cast. But make no mistake, these aren't the kinds of girls you take home to mama, unless you intend to have your mama killed.

Described as Alice in Wonderland with machine guns, Snyder says SUCKER PUNCH is much more than that.

IESB sat down exclusively with Snyder last week in Beverly Hills who says he is currently working on Guardians of GaHoole, an animated PG film, one he's having a hard time keeping PG. No Zack, you can't show nudity in a PG rated film, no, no, not guns and blood either...

On the topic of SUCKER PUNCH (we'll be posting the entire interview at a later date), IESB was hearing Mama Mia's Amanda Seyfried, who did an excellent job at the Oscars this week, as the top contender for the SUCKER PUNCH lead.

IESB has also exclusively learned SUCKER PUNCH has an $85 million dollar budget.

Here's what Zack Snyder had to say, excuse me while I go blow out some of the candles on my Snyder shrine before I start a fire,

Zack Snyder: Sucker Punch is R rated for sure.

IESB: You are gearing up for Sucker Punch to go into pre-production in a couple of weeks I am hearing?

ZS: Yeah.

IESB: Shoots in June?

ZS: We move up in June, to Canada, we'll still be in pre-production. We're in casting right now.

IESB: I am hearing a name that may be the lead in Sucker Punch.

ZS: What name have you heard?

IESB: Amanda Seyfried.

ZS: Where did you hear that from? You're good! We'll see, we're trying to so...She's great.

IESB: She is great.

ZS: She's cool. So we'll see.

IESB: How close?

ZS: I don't know, I mean, she's got some other obligations and we're just trying to figure that out.

IESB: They just signed her up for something else recently right?

ZS: Yeah, that's not the thing I am worried about but anyway, I won't go into it, but let's just say...I think we're looking at, like, what I would consider a lot of great, really great girls. Because it's all girls so it's like, yeah.

IESB: But potentially she would be the lead.

ZS: It would be great if it worked out.

IESB: I am hearing this is a bloodfest...

ZS: Damon [Caro] and I are really, Damon is my stunt choreographer, we're really trying, I've been drawing each shot, we're just trying to make these action sequences just out of this - just off the frickin scale, planet. Cause I really feel like I've never really had the opportunity to make an action movie you know, I mean 300 is action-y but not like I could be, you know, with no rules and machine guns and just everything. I feel like there's huge potential there that I haven't really gotten to explore, so that's kind of what I am excited about.

IESB: Besides Sucker Punch anything else you are working on in the comic book world or otherwise?

ZS: No, right now I am just working on Sucker, it's a pretty massive undertaking.

IESB: When do you think we'll hear some official casting news?

ZS: Hopefully soon, soon.

IESB: If I was a betting man...

ZS: Hopefully in a couple of weeks.

IESB: You think Amanda's going to be getting it?

ZS: Actually maybe a month, that will be everybody. But there's cool people, it's not just Amanda, there's a bunch of people that we've talked to that are all, I mean, it's five girls so they are all pretty cool.

SUCKER PUNCH is rumored to be shooting for a March 2011 release date.

Stay tuned to the IESB for our complete exclusive interview with Zack Snyder that includes info on Superman, a Watchmen sequel, his animated film and more!
