With the exception of Shane Wolfe from The Pacifier, Vin Diesel's most memorable character was Richard Riddick in Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick.

{sidebar id=1}I kid, I'm a kidder. Seriously, Diesel's Riddick is a badass and is coming back to the big screen shortly in the next Riddick film with a rumored production start date of early 2010.

IESB has gotten some inside information about the film to share.

Universal Pictures, the studio behind the franchise, is gung-ho about a Riddick sequel due to the huge tracking of Diesel's FAST & FURIOUS due out April 3 co-starring Paul Walker.

IESB is hearing the new Riddick film will be more down and dirty with less "fantasy epic stuff" to deal with. A bounty hunter/space pirate type of story line is expected.

The film will have a capped budget of around $35 million.

Expect an official announcement about the new film after FAST & FURIOUS opens big on April 3.

2004 was the last time we saw Riddick and at the time he had spent the last five years on the move among the forgotten worlds on the outskirts of the galaxy, eluding mercenaries bent on collecting the price on his head. Now, the fugitive finds himself on planet Helion, home to a progressive multicultural society that has been invaded by the Lord Marshal, a despot who targets humans for subjugation with his army of warriors known as Necromongers.

Exiled to a subterranean prison where extremes of temperature range from arctic nights to volcanic days, Riddick encounters Kyra, the lone survivor from an earlier chapter in his life. His efforts to free himself and Kyra lead him to the Necromonger command ship, where he is pitted against the Lord Marshal in an apocalyptic battle with possibly the fate of all beings -- both living and dead -- hanging in the balance.
