When we reported that Michael Rosenbaum didn't want to talk about the upcoming Superman movie, we knew that the Smallville fans would start speculating that he may be involved.

We did however clearly state that his not commenting on the film probably meant nothing at all. Even though I personally feel that a Superman movie should wait until Smallville has run its course and then use the established actors. Warner Bros. will be making a movie that has nothing to do with the TV series.

We received an email today from a source at a PR firm in Burbank who wanted to explain why the Smallville cast has been told not to talk about Superman and also who's in the running for various parts in the film.

"I read your report about Michael Rosenbaum's Superman Involvement. I work in PR in Burbank, thought I'd shed some light on that for you.

Unfortunately Michael won't be in the film. Why he's not talking is because all of the Smallville cast members have been told not to speak about the film because some of the shows creative team as well as Tom Welling, who has tested for the lead role in the film, might be involved and obviously know a fair bit about what size, shape, form, the film is going to be. They don't want it getting out obviously. So that's all there is to that.

At this stage, I don't think the film is going to have any link to the series - besides a couple of behind the scenes players - with Welling simply one of many testing. At least three clients that I know of have also tested. Singer's after an unknown - so every talent manager in town is trying to get their clients a look in. Colin Hanks is a favorite for the Jimmy Olsen part I hear (Adam Brody from The OC was in the running too, but I believe there's a conflict) while every vet actor in town (David Keith, Gary Cole, Robert Burke, John Saxon...the list goes on) is up for Jonathan Kent. I think what the deal is that they want to surround an unknown with slightly more marketable names...for instance, folks like Patrick Stewart (who is apparently singer's fave for Jor-El) would have more pull at the b.o."

Will any of these names make the final  cast? I have a hard time believing that Patrick Stewart would take on another comic book movie, but Singer does like working with him. The other actors seem like a possibilities.
