If you talk to some Star Trek fans they will tell you that they do not like the direction that Star Trek has been headed for some time. Star Trek: Enterprise has not been doing extremely well and the entire franchise seems to be in a major decline.

A few months ago we interviewed Star Trek head honcho Rick Berman and asked him about the rumored 11th Star Trek film that was in early development. We asked Rick if he could shed some light on rumors regarding the storyline revolving around Starfleet Academy or the Romulan Wars. "The rumors are not very accurate, we are in very early stages and we are not sure what we will see at the end. A few things that I can share is that the movie will be a prequel and probably after Enterprise. It will be like nothing we have ever seen on Star Trek and it will be based on all new characters."

That was then, this is now. A few websites are reporting that the 11th Trek film has been cancelled. After a few phone calls to Paramount I was able to get the usual "Sorry, no comment." After a few more calls I was told that Paramount was not happy with the direction that the story was headed and that it's not completely cancelled but that they are reworking a few things and that to be rest assured, Star Trek will never be totally cancelled.

A few concerns according to my source is that the film was headed into extrememly unknown territory. The concern is that when Star Trek returns to the big screen there needs to be some familiarity to the story.

In other Star Trek news we were told that LeVar "Reading Rainbow" Burton will be returning to direct another Enterprise episode early this year.

Stay tuned to the IESB for more Trek news!
