Exclusive Video Interview: Greg Grunberg Talks Trek.

So if you can't get J.J. Abrams to talk about Star Trek you do the next best thing, you get his best friend Greg Grunberg to talk about Trek.

Surprising to journalists and especially the online journie types, J.J. Abrams and Paramount are avoiding any direct talk about Trek. For the last few days prior to the release of MI:3, J.J. has been doing some conference calls for the press. But before J.J. gets on the phone the journalists are warned not to ask about Star Trek.

Even during the Los Angeles Fan Screening of MI:3 that was held on Thursday at the World Famous Graumans' Chinese Theater, the studio publicists informed reporters including the IESB that J.J would not talk about Star Trek. Why?

Officially Paramount is saying that Variety jumped the gun and announced the Trek deal a bit too early. Variety reported that J.J. would co-write, direct and produce the next Trek film that would introduce a younger Kirk and Spock as they first meet at Starfleet Academy and their first mission to space.

Trek fans know that this storyline does not follow the known mythos. You can read my first report here.

Quickly J.J. went on record saying that he would co-write, produce and that he had an option to direct but that he had not yet decided. Regarding the rumored Spock and Kirk storyline that is also not officially announced.supposedly.

Well his friends are sure not keeping quiet. We spoke to Greg Grunberg during the 32 nd Annual Saturn Awards that were held earlier this week. When asked if he would object to recasting Kirk and Spock he said: Well, they have to. We're going back in time.it's like the beginnings when they were young so they have to but I just think it's interesting, JJ, here he is, he took the Mission Impossible franchise and humanized it and he's gonna do the same thing for Star Trek and he's writing with Alex and Bob and you know they wrote Mission together, it's gonna be incredible. You know it's gonna be great. I think that's what's going to reinvigorate.you know all the Star Trek fans are going to see it. Half of them are going to hate the fact of bringing it back and half are going to love it but JJ is just going to bring in a whole new audience to it.
