Glory Road Writers to Pen NASCAR Legend Richard Petty Film starring Randy Quaid
Author: Robert Sanchez

Glory Road writers Christopher Cleveland and Bettina Gilois are working on a film based upon the life of NASCAR legend Richard Petty starring Randy Quaid. inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1997, Petty is known to most NASCAR fans as King Richard or simply the King.

He is most well-known for winning the NASCAR Championship seven times, winning 200 races during his career, and winning a record of 27 wins in the 1967 season alone.

He also collected a record number of 127 poles and over 700 top-ten finishes in his 1,185 starts, including 513 consecutive starts from 1971-1989. He also won seven Daytona 500s and nine Most Popular Driver awards.

Petty is a second generation driver. His father, Lee Petty, won the first Daytona 500 in 1959 and was also a NASCAR champion. His son, Kyle Petty, is also a well-known NASCAR driver. Tragically, Richard's grandson, Adam Petty, was killed in an accident at New Hampshire International Speedway on May 12 , 2000.

The story will be transgenerational. It will cover his life during different times and challenges. Randy Quaid is said to play Petty during his later years. No other cast is attached at this time.

The film will most likely cover his childhood with his dad being the first winner of the Daytona 500 and go all the way up to his tragic loss of his grandson in a racing accident and beyond.
